In collaboration with a team of investigators at the Innovative Genomics Institute, we are generating gene-edited plants with improved photosynthesis for carbon dioxide removal from the atmosphere and long-term sequestration in soils. With David Savage and Peggy Lemaux, our focus is on the key first step in plant-based carbon dioxide sequestration: capture and conversion of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere into biomass through photosynthesis.
